Wine Insight
Arianna Occhipinti is a young winemaker from Vittoria, in the south-eastern tip of Sicily. In a region often associated with Marsala and with producing bulk quantities of full- fleshed, plummy and ripe reds made for export and blending, Arianna Occhipinti’s wines are non-conformist and highly atypical for the region. In 2004 she bought a hectare of land and implanted her first vineyard.
Today the farm is larger, with 15 hectares of olive groves and vineyards of 5, where varieties typical of the area are cultivated: frappato, nero d’Avola, cerasuolo di Vittoria and zibibbo. The naturalness of the production is central in Arianna’s philosophy : no fertilization, a tillage in early summer, fermentation, maceration and aging with natural yeasts grapes, no filtration. Her Natural and Biodynamic wines respect, in part, her character: mysterious, earthy and intriguing.
A biodynamic red made from the indigenous grapes Frappato and Nero d'Avola by the iconic producer Arianna Occhipinti. Hints of dried herbs and fresh, wild berries. Medium bodied and expressive.
