Wine Insight
Travis Tausend’s vines grow at the very Southern tip of the Adelaide Hills in a small community called Hope Forest. The original carers and traditional owners of this land are the Perimangk people. The soils here are varied but the vines put their roots into mostly clay, sand and ironstone based soils. The vineyard is planted on several slopes but mostly make use of a North-East aspect with exception to the merlot which faces the North-West.
Being in a raised valley that is cooled by two winds, the hot days experienced by the regions surrounding are mitigated by the Southern ocean wind and the gulf breeze, making the micro climate one of the coolest in the Adelaide Hills. Because of this beautiful flow of air, there are pockets of noble rot in the vineyard that Travis uses to add another layer to his riesling and sauvignon blanc.
Travis Tausend wines contain no added sulphites at any stage.
Pinot Noir from Magpie Springs vineyard, Hope Forest. The vines on this property are
producing better fruit each year. Undervine soil management and mid-row crops cultivation have allowed this vineyard to increase its strength and produce fruit of wonderful quality in the 2021 harvest.
A long ripening period and later picking allowed the grapes’ characters to shine through into the finished wine. Travis personally loves Djuna, it feels classic and new all at once. Bright and delicate, the wine is on his family table regularly as Australia is moving into the cooler months.
