Wine Insight
Guilhem Goisot is one of the rising stars of Burgundy.
Along with his father, the highly-respected Jean-Hughes Goisot, Guilhem is crafting some of the best value wines coming out of Burgundy at the moment. With a heavy focus on biodynamic farming, these wines from lesser-known Burgundian appellations are some of the hottest property in French wine today.
The critical acclaim for their wines is absolutely stellar. They are comfortably some of the best value you will find from the region. If you want high-quality white Burgundy that won't destroy your bank account, these wines are a must-try.
Their Aligote offers supreme value for money. It's sourced from vines aged from 40 to 92-years-old, growing on the cool slopes of St Bris. These old vines planted at high density produce a wine with great depth of flavour with a serious mineral backbone. It's a brilliant way to sneak into Burgundy with breaking the bank account.
A Biodynamic Pinot Noir, single-vineyard. Replanted some 15 years ago to 12,000 vines per hectare, La Ronce was established with low yielding, massale selection vines that were specifically chosen for the site's warm microclimate. Each vine naturally yields only 2-4 bunches (about half to a third of what you would expect of a well managed grand cru site in the Côte d'Or!) Unlike the Domaine's other single site Pinot (from the chalk-rich Les Mazelots in Irancy), La Ronce is on white clay soils that are rich in fossils. This soil gifts a more seductive, sweet-fruited, 'Beaunois' style of Pinot than the Mazelots' more mineral, structured persona. Matured in oak barriques, one third new, two thirds used, this is a cherry bomb in 2015; a lovely, bright, pure and detailed red with a glowing, silky mid-palate, loaded with sweet/sappy/resinous fruit tapering to a youthful close with fine tannins,
