For decades, the Fritsch family has been the driving force behind quality winegrowing on the Wagram . Grüner Veltliner, which occupies one third of the vineyard, Riesling and Zweigelt are the main varieties. Pinot Noir is “a matter of the heart” for Karl Fritsch, he can show him all his skills.
His efforts were rewarded with the 1997 Falstaff Winemaker award. Respect for man and nature, biodynamic management of its 25 hectares of vineyards, transparency, creative spontaneity and openness lead to a unique style.
Fritsch’s wines are straightforward, crisp and elegant with a certain earthiness. They reflect not only the terroir of the Wagram , but also the personality of their creator.
"Exlberg" by Karl Fritsch is a Pinot Noir that comes from the Wagram area in the northern part of Austria. Fruit of an organic agriculture with biodynamic influences, it is first vinified in steel, then in used barrique to transfer all the fresh and most inviting notes of the fruit to the drinker, enlivened by spicy and slightly smoked outlines. The sip is fine, with a vibrant tannin and with hints of cherry in the finish.
