Christopher Andrew, New Zealander in 4th generation, came to the winery SALOMON UNDHOF in 2008 as an intern for harvest. Chris is not only a graduate of oenology at Lincoln University in Christchurch / New Zealand, but also a particularly sensitive and experienced winemaker.
Bert Salomon launched a joint venture with Chris being his New Zealand partner. The joint venture SALOMON&ANDREW reflects the common bond of winemaking on two continents.
Positioned in the southern central region of New Zealand’s South Island, Central Otago is bounded by towering mountains and interlaced with lakes and deep rivers. The soils are mostly glacially derived, with rich deposits of mica and schist.
The summers are hot and dry, and the winters crisp and snowy, Central Otago is New Zealand’s only "continental" region. Its soil and climate is ideally suited to Pinot Noir (80% of the plantings), producing expressive and elegant wines.
This label embraces voluminous ethereal aromas of red cherry fruit with subtle nuances of thyme herbs, unfolding red floral elements, with suggestions of raspberries and liquorice. Medium-full bodied, The mouthfeel is fine-featured with flowery tannin extraction and balanced by fresh acidity. The palate has good linearity, carrying to a light, lingering finish of cherries and raspberries.
